The most common way to reach the Sunshine Coast is by ferry, either as a walk-on passenger, or taking your vehicle. To reach the Sunshine Coast from Vancouver, you would board the ferry in Horseshoe Bay Terminal in West Vancouver. This 40-minute trip carries you through beautiful Howe Sound, where steep coastal mountains drop down straight into the ocean. You'll want to have your camera handy for this trip!
Ferry in Howe Sound If you're coming from the north, from Powell River, you'll board the ferry in Saltery Bay Terminal, and travel to Egmont, passing through the equally stunning Jervis Inlet. Both ferries have food service and a gift shop. Ferries typically run once every two hours, so remember to check the BC Ferries web site to make sure that your ferry schedule coordinates with your plans. In the summertime, you may consider making a reservation to secure a spot, because the ferries can be quite busy during that time (especially on long weekends).
Public transit is usually scheduled to meet with the ferry, and can take you up to Sechelt, with some trips available from Sechelt to Halfmoon Bay. BC Ferries Telephone: 1-888-223-3779 |
