Egmont is at the northernmost point of the lower Sunshine Coast,
close to the Earls Cove ferry terminal, which is the
the departure point to Powell River. This small town has several
marinas, a general store and pub, and various types of accommodation,
including camping and cabins.
The famous Skookumchuck Narrows is nearby and well worth an afternoon of your visit. On the way there, you can drop by the Egmont Heritage Centre to learn more about the area and its history. There is lots of great hiking and mountain biking in Egmont. And if you want a fabulous boat tour up to Princess Louisa Inlet to see the stunning Chatterbox Falls, Egmont is the place where the tours start. Egmont is also a good launch spot for kayaking and diving. Advanced divers can dive the Skookumchuck Narrows and surrounding area, but it is very important to note that the currents are dangerous. South of Egmont lies Ruby Lake, where there is a sandy swimming beach, boat rentals and walking trails. Nearby Ruby Lake Lagoon is home to a wide variety of birds, including the beautiful wood duck. You can learn more about the natural environment of this area, by visiting the Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve Society Iris Griffith Centre. |
